Hey Fam – here’s my inaugural post on GaleTales!
I’m so thrilled with my life right now. It’s due to a lot of things, but the following categories probably encapsulate most of it: Work, Emily, Friends, Interests.
Work is Challenging but Rewarding
In keeping with the theme over the past 6 months, I’m taking on more responsibility at work than ever before. My boss is essentially letting me run with a lot of our transaction work by myself, and I’m getting copious amounts of facetime with clients and buyers. I constantly feel like I’m learning and growing, and it feels like my colleagues think highly of me.
One fun fact – I was recently asked by the group head to create a write-up on the ways in which AI could affect the secondaries industry. It was cool to be recognized as a group thought leader for a niche interest that I have!
Still in Love With Emily
~4.5 years later, Emily and I are still sweet on each other and sometimes infatuated. We’ve reflected recently on how we’ve changed since meeting each other – we’re both different people now than we were in December 2018 when we met, though of course also similar in some ways. It’s fun to see the change and weird to think about how much we might change 5 years from now.

Speaking of change, reminder to place bets on which of us will win the 2023-2028 BMI War. Market is currently in my favor, though only slightly!

Best Friend Group of my Life
Our friend group right now is full and delightful, though we’re very sad that Max and Madeleine will soon be leaving. Max will be doing his MBA at Stanford for 2 years, so sad he’ll be gone but at least he’s only an hour or so away. Madeleine will be farther away, as she’s doing a PHD in European History at Cornell in NY.
Went camping with these great folks. Left to right: Chandler (Max brother-in-law), Megan, Lindsay, Madeleine (Max GF), Emily, Max, me, Mike (Megan’s lover).
Lots of good philosophical conversations. Fun that Mike and Madeleine are socialists and Mike / Megan are nihilists, so good content for conversation.

We did a mushroom microdose, found a found a mini waterfall in this totally secluded creek in a national park, and opted for a serendipitous plunge! (hence no swimsuits). So much fun and so beautiful!

Emily and I have also been spending a lot of time with our new friends, Alex and Vadim. I met Vadim through an effective altruism meetup in the park and it was love at first sight 🙂 They’ve been coming to our apartment events for the last 6 months or so and we’re doing couple things with them pretty regularly.
Alex does developmental work with youth at SF school systems and Vadim works at UCSF as a medical fellow in pulmonary / critical care. Alex is quiet at first but super smart and kind and fun to be around. Vadim is a ridiculously nice dude with Russian / Jewish heritage who grew up in New York, went to Harvard for med school, and moved to SF for fellowship. We love talking with them about philosophy, economics, government, and pretty much anything else! Also, Vadim and I have been hitting up the ping pong tables at the nearby rec center pretty frequently!
We don’t have pictures with them, but they are 4th and 5th from the left in our Easter brunch.

Personal Interests
Lots of Zelda. Best video game ever IMHO.
Lots of chatting with GPT 4 recently. I’ve found it an incredibly capable conversational companion. In particularly I love chatting with it on niche philosophy points, in which it has demonstrated itself to be very capable. I love learning about random topics by asking GPT4.
I updated my and Emily’s finances recently, which was super fun. I have a very detailed excel spreadsheet that I really enjoy. I can build fun charts like this:
2022 Expense Breakdown

Recurring / Subscription Expenses

And you know I’m still rocking my Manifold bets and markets!
And lots of other stuff I won’t get into now.
Love you all, Gale fam!
